STATEMENT 
  Throughout the history of the human species, hair has been universally used as a vehicle for symbolic expression; whether coded with religious, political, or social status, human hairstyles have existed across the earth in endless permutations of beauty.     Religious and political semiotics may be appropriated and incorporated into art with varying levels of deference. It follows that the symbolism and formal genius of hairstyles from all cultures and eras may inspire contemporary coiffures and lend narrative to their display.    With this piece I am attempting to showcase the transcendent beauty of human craft in the service of communicating power through hair. Even ethnically transfigured, it is through the crown of hair that these archetypes retain their majesty. I am not attempting to make historically accurate recreations; I am suggesting our species’ mutual cross-cultural fascinations, and seeking a resonant harmony. Variety is the key to combustion. ———————————————-
